Andrew was born in Dunfermline in 1957 but grew up in Middlesbrough. His family returned to Fife and from 1979- 1983 he attended Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee.

Andrew is a contemporary of David Cook, Morag Muir and Keith MacIntyre and like them has followed a mainly figurative path in his work.

A travelling scholarship enabled Andrew to go to Catalunya where he discovered the work of Gaudi and Antoni Tapiez. He spent two years in Barcelona before returning to Fife with his wife to start a family. Andrew then spent many years working with people affected by disability and mental health illness. In 1994 he was seconded to St Andrews University for 2 years to co-write course materials on ‘Approaches to Profound Disability’. In 1997 he took over as director of FACET (Fife Arts and Crafts Enterprise Training) and, in parallel with projects like the Glasgow based Projectability, promoted the development of equal partnerships between the disabled and non- disabled. FACET created a number of programmes, exhibitions and public artworks that gave people access to mainstream arts activity. He left FACET in 2013. Since 2013 Andrew has been self-employed. In collaboration with the Beehive Arts Centre and CLEAR and with Big Lottery and Regeneration funding he has run a number of community arts projects in Methil and Buckhaven, also creating large scale artworks.

Andrew has also had an alter ego as a press cartoonist and over sixteen years, until 2013, produced over 700 satirical drawings.

Andrew lives and works in Fife. He also enjoys doing a bit of teaching at the St Andrews Art Club and he has recently travelled to United Arab Emirates to run workshops and at Tashkeel Studio and the Jean Paul Najar Foundation in Dubai.

‘ Whilst I still enjoy easel painting there’s something exciting about working on large scale pieces that will be seen by a wide range of people - I think that kind of raw exposure can be good for an artist.’
